People living in the East
We surveyed people living in the east of Christchurch to ask what they thought and largely their responses were the same as other survey respondents. Some differences are listed below.
People living in the east are slightly more likely to prioritise the need that People are safe from crime (63% compared with 59% of other survey respondents).
“I firmly believe that people who live in an urban area should be encouraged to take ownership of their neighbourhood whether they rent or own. This can be supported by a number of conditions and services. This can really only be realised if people have a balance of emotional, financial, spiritual connection to an area. Crime will not flourish easily in areas that people care about and/or care for.”
“Have lots of people using the spaces makes them safe.”
“Supply suitable lighting and crime cameras."
People living in the east of Christchurch are also more likely to prioritise the need that Development attracts the types of visits and tourism that will help the region to prosper. (26% compared with 20%.)
“Develop the river and people will come.”
“Small business needs to be encouraged, and hopefully employ more young people.”
“Good quality food sites, boutique shops and amenities provided in areas that can be stop off sites along the walkways.”
“This area needs to attract new business as a busy place is a safe place. We don't need more parks, wetlands, education, training, we need a place that brings business and tourists to it and therefore Christchurch and then it will thrive.”
“People with money need to invest in the area and build quality structures. These buildings would include public areas like pools, community parks and playgrounds, housing, cafes and other areas where families and large groups would gather. You need to spend money to make money.”
